You should check the spark plug condition, clean it, adjust the plug gap and replace it if necessary. Periodic maintenance should be performed every 75 hours of use or every 750 miles (1,200 km) whichever comes first.

Spark Plug Service

  1. Remove:
    • Take off ATV seat.
    • Remove right fuel tank side panel.

  2. Remove:
    • Take out spark plug.
  3. Check:
    • Check spark plug type (DR8EA/NGK), if incorrect, replace.
    • Be certain the spark plug electrode (1) is not worn or damaged, replace if necessary.
      Inspect 4-wheeler spark plug electrode and insulator.
    • Check spark plug insulator (2). It should be medium-to-light tan in color, if not, replace plug.
  4. Clean:
    • Clean spark plug with a wire brush or spark plug cleaner.
  5. Measure:
    • Use a feeler gauge or spark plug wire gauge to measure gap.

    • Regap if out of spec 0.6 ~ 0.7 mm (0.024 ~ 0.028 in).
  6. Tighten:
    • Clean gasket hole before re-inserting spark plug.
    • Position the spark plug back into plug hole.
    • Finger tighten spark plug before you torque it with a wrench.
    • Torque plug 7 Nm (5.1 ft·lb) or 0.7 m·kg.
  7. Install:
    • Put right side fuel tank side panel back on.
    • Fix the seat back into position.
